Recovering the HBCU championships

Atlanta – Almost 200 student athletes from nine conferences met at the 24th annual HBCU championships in the South Fulton Tennis Center, with an exciting weekend of College Tennis in which the North Carolina Central Men and Jackson State Women earned the team titles.

The central men of North Carolina earned a total of 82 team points, good for an edge of 25 points above second place in Alabama State (57) to design back-to-back champions in Tennessee State. It marked the first team title for North Carolina Central in 11 seasons. The Eagles were propelled to the team title by a number of striking individual versions, because the duo of Kareem Hakim and Leo Fortier-Gariepy reached a Doubles final and Naresh Bharathy and Antoni Pankowski won the final of the flight B. Bharathy also defeated colleague Eagle Rodrigo Alves in the Final Final on Sunday afternoon.

The Jackson State women drove to their team title and achieved an incredible 122 total points, a 51-point advantage against second Alabama A&M (71). The Tigers had their fingerprints on Sunday’s last slate, while teammates Paula Corbalan and Victoria Linkovski met a singles final in the flight, while Isabella Benavides and Polina Georgieva fought in the title of the flight C singles. Although Corbalan and Benavides provided the only individual titles in Atlanta, the Tigers also had both Linkovski and Helen Hernandez a double final and Mariia Iordanova and Daniela Tovar in the final of flight B.
