Earlier this week San Diego Startup Gallant announced $ 18 million In financing to bring the first ready-made stem cell therapy to veterinary medicine approved by the FDA. If it passes the regulating collection, it can create a whole new way to treat our fur babies.

It is still an experimental field, although people have been investigating stem cells for people for decades. The first target of the seven-year-old Gallant is a painful mouth disorder in cats called Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis (FCGS), of which Gallant says that the beginning of 2026 could get FDA approval.

The field has shown a number of encouraging early results. Studies Dogs with arthritis showed improvements in pain and mobility, with some advantages that last up to two years. But when researchers tried similar treatments for kidney diseases in cats – that is another condition that Gallant wants to tackle – the results were more mixed.

What makes Gallant’s approach different is the convenience. Most stem cell treatments nowadays require harvest cells from the patient or donors with matching tissue, while the therapy of Gallant uses ready -to -use cells of donor animals, even if they are one different types.

Investors see clearly potential here. The financing round was led by existing Backer Digitalis Ventures, with participation of Novaquest Capital Management, which previously invested in the first human stem cell therapy approved by the FDA.

The company has an interesting background story. The founder of Gallant, Aaron Hirschhorn, earlier sold Dogvacay to its biggest rival at the dog session marketplace, Rover. Hirschhorn dead in 2021; Gallant is now led by Linda Black, who came from almost the start as president and chief scientific officer. Gallant has now collected at least $ 44 million from investors.
