Health officials have recalled 45,000 pounds ready-made shrimp due to the fears it can be infected with Listeria.
The Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers not to eat Bornstein Seafoods or Bellingham, cooked and peeled, ready-made coldwater shrimps from Washington.
The agency said it is assumed that it is infected with Listeria Monocytogenes – a bacterium that is able to cause serious infections in humans.
Although a Listeria infection usually causes a fever, headache and diarrhea in most people, it can be deadly for pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and people with a weak immune system.
Officials also noted that the Product was delivered to distributors and retailers in California” OregonWashington and British Columbia in Canada.
However, it can be further divided and sold with retailers in the US and parts of Canada.
The recalled product can be identified under Bornstein Seafoods branded packaging in 1 lb. or 5 lb. Plastic Bag with lot codes A19008, A19009, P11710, A19009, A19019, A19026, A19030, A19032, A19037, A19039, A18989, A19006, A19007, P11709 and P10710.
From now on, no cases of Listeria infection have been reported as a result of the shrimp.
The FDA has asked consumers who bought the affected product to bring it back to stores for a full repayment.

People can become infected with Listeria of contaminated food products such as seafood, delicatesse meat, hot dogs, unpasteurized fruit juices, soft cheeses and sprouts.
In this case it is possible that the shrimp may be contaminated with Listeria due to poor hygiene, contact with contaminated surfaces and even during the hair -raising process.
The bacteria can survive the stomach acid and travel to the intestine, from which they migrate to the bloodstream.
Most healthy adults will start to feel sick within a few days of consuming contaminated food.
It usually starts with flu -like symptoms – fever, muscle pain or nausea – before it concerns vomiting and diarrhea.
Some people start to feel sick weeks or months after the first infection.
This is because Listeria can be sleeping when confronted with environmental stress, such as in water without nutrients or in the presence of detergents.
It can also spread to the central nervous system and a stiff neck, epileptic seizures, confusion and a loss of balance

In the most serious cases, Listeria can lead to meningitis, an inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord or pus -built -up in the brain that can be deadly for human life.
However, pregnant woman can have mild or no symptoms, but the infection can still pass on to the fetus, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Babies born with a Listeria infection can have developmental arrears, blindness, paralyzing and can even be confronted with organ failure – which can lead to death.
