The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Sonali Sen Gupta as Executive Director (ED) with effect from October 9, 2025.
Before being promoted to ED, she was Regional Director for Karnataka at RBI’s Bangalore Regional Office. This appointment follows the appointment of Shirish Chandra Murmu as Deputy Governor with effect from October 9.
Sen Gupta has over three decades of experience at the Reserve Bank and has worked in the areas of financial inclusion, human resource management, banking regulation and supervision. She is the nominated director of RBI on the board of directors of Indian Overseas Bank.
As ED, Sen Gupta will be responsible for the Consumer Education and Protection Department, the Financial Inclusion and Development Department and the Inspection Department.
Hansda, ED, reports to RBI
Earlier this week, RBI said Sanjay Kumar Hansda would report to the Bank on October 6, 2025, after completing his deputation as senior advisor to ED (India) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Hansda was appointed as RBI ED with effect from March 3, 2025. Before being promoted to ED, Hansda was an advisor in the Department of Economic and Policy Research.
He was also advisor to the Monetary Policy department and responsible/director of the Internal Debt Management department. He had a stint as an analyst (financial stability) at the Bank of England, on secondment to the RBI.
As ED, Hansda looks after the Department of Economic and Policy Research.
