Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has said he is not surprised by his omission from the Indian ODI squad for the upcoming series in Australia, adding that the decision was clearly communicated by the selectors and team management. Speaking to reporters after Day 2 of the Delhi Test against West Indies, Jadeja clarified that there was no misunderstanding over his exclusion. So let’s take a look at Ravindra Jadeja ODI non-selection.

“The selection is not in my hands. The management and selectors have their plans and they have clearly explained the reason behind my omission. It was not a surprise to me,” Jadeja said. The veteran, who turns 37 in December, reiterated his desire to continue contributing to Indian cricket and expressed his hope to feature in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

He added, “Every time I get an opportunity, I will do what I have always done – perform for India. Playing in the World Cup again would be a dream. We were close last time; hopefully next time we can go one step further.”

Selectors explain the call

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Jadeja will remain part of India’s future ODI plans but was left out due to team balance considerations. “Right now, we couldn’t take two left-arm spinners to Australia. Jadeja is very much in the mix, but with Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar offering variety, it was a tactical choice,” Agarkar explained.

Jadeja has represented India in 204 ODIs, scoring 2806 runs and claiming 231 wickets. His recent Champions Trophy campaign yielded five wickets at an economy rate of 4.35, underscoring his continued value in limited-overs cricket.

‘Those days are over’: Jadeja on Captaincy Talk

The left-handed all-rounder also addressed speculation about leadership roles following his appointment as vice-captain for the ongoing Test series against West Indies. Dismissing any ambition to lead India, Jadeja said, “No sir, I don’t think about captaincy or vice-captain anymore. Those days are over. I am just concentrating on performing and helping the youngsters.”

Jadeja revealed that he enjoys watching upcoming players like Kuldeep Yadav and Yashasvi jaiswalwho provides input on circumstances and competition situations.

Focus on performance and team success

Jadeja remains India’s leading Test spinner and picked up three wickets for 37 runs on Day 2 against West Indies in Delhi. With his focus now firmly on on-field performance, Jadeja’s calm and mature response reflects his veteran mentality as India prepare for the tougher overseas challenges that lie ahead.
