Could Rasmus Andersson actually stay with the Calgary Flames?
Derek Wills, The Voice of the Calgary Flames on Sportnet 690, joined Scott Laughlin and Gord Stellick on Sirius XM NHL network. Wills was asked about Flames -defender Rasmus Andersson and whether he will be part of the team that is making progress.

Scott Laurhlin: “Derek Wills joins us and talk about Calgary Flames Hockey here. You also look at it. And I have often wondered, I often like this player. You are in the area with him. You know how he is on and out of the ice. He is a pretty good leader for this club in the course of the years, 28 years old.
I have often wondered why it came up that he would not be paid by Calgary, Derek. But I think, although the salary limit will rise in the coming years, they have a number of large contracts. It is clear that there is only so much money to go around. Is that kind of where we are at Anderson, because and look, I think of my head, I think his plus/min number was terrible last season.

But otherwise, however, I have always enjoyed a lot of what he entails. Not only on ice, but in terms of off-ice leadership. Derek Wills: “Yes, if the money and the term are good at the moment, the money and the term are not suitable for the team and for the player. And if your Rasmus Andersson is, you know that this is your chance to really cash and adjust yourself and make your family, but I can take a short time, I can take on a short time.
And from a flame perspective, the one I have with Rasmus who is making progress, and I would not say that it is something that is stopping him now, but you do wonder how a man will age the pace. Can the Flames work for Rasmus Anderson on a large number for the next eight years? I think that is the question I have.
If it was a deal of four years, perhaps a deal of five years, I would be sure to take the opportunity to sign Rasmus Andersson for that period. But if it turns eight, I am quite hesitant to be honest. And I think there is another NHL team, one of the 31 or perhaps more, that would give him a contract of seven or eight years.

So for me, guys who assume that I might not have to make this assumption, but assuming that they are not far away what the number goes, I think term is probably what a potential expansion has stopped with Rasmus Andersson. And again, who knows, maybe it happens. He likes Calgary. He has been a large part of the flames for ten years now, both on the ice and the ice. I think he would like to stay here.
