Rajasthan registered 20 guardians in police lock-ups between August 2023 and August 2025, with six of them attributed to suicides, has explained a government report.

The report, which was submitted in the state meeting in response to a question by the MLA Rafeek Khan congress, said that 12 of the dead were linked to health problems, including six of heart attacks.

In addition to six of the prisoners who die from suicide, one person died after touching a well during an escape attempt. The cause of one death remains disputed.

The report emphasized recurring patterns such as chest pain, heat areas, abdominal pain or hanging in police lock-ups.

One case in Beawar’s Jaitaran attracted attention after a prisoner reportedly hung himself on a railing with a blanket during Peak Summer in May. The report noted that standard operational procedures prohibit it from leaving items that can be abused, as a result of which questions are asked about compliance.

Of the 20 cases, questions are still being processed in 13. In the seven questions that have been completed so far, no one found mistakes in police staff, and the dead were registered as natural or suicides., State the report.

In some cases where negligence was established, the action included the transfer of police officers to lines or issuing departmental reports.

Disciplinary measures were taken in some cases. A SHO and three agents in Jaipur were moved to lines after a suicide in custody, an agent in Sriganganagar, an increase of a year was refused, an SI in Baran was suspended and agents in Beawar and Dausa received reports.

The development comes at a time when the Supreme Suo Motu knowledge has taken knowledge of media reports on deaths due to freedom. The court said that it will investigate compliance with his earlier directive that requires the installation of CCTV cameras in police stations.
