The opposition on Sunday joined the nation in celebrating India’s maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title, with several leaders praising the team’s courage, determination and historic achievements.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, praised the team’s performance and said their courage and grace had inspired millions.
“What a moment of pride! Our Women in Blue have created history and touched a billion hearts. Your courage, perseverance and grace have brought glory to India and inspired countless young girls to dream fearlessly,” Gandhi said on he added.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised the impressive performance of the Indian team and termed the victory as a moment of national pride.
“Incredibly proud of our Women in Blue for their performance in the World Cup final. The fight they showed and the command they displayed during the tournament will be an inspiration to generations of young girls,” Banerjee said on X.
She added that the players had proven themselves as a “world-class team at the top level” and offered them her best wishes for future success.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge termed the victory not just a sporting milestone but a symbol of women’s strength and leadership.
“Warmest congratulations to the Indian women’s cricket team for their outstanding victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Your remarkable performance, determination and teamwork have brought immense pride to the nation,” Kharge said on X.
He added that the team had “not only won the World Cup but had also won every Indian heart.”
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also congratulated the team for their extraordinary achievement. “What a moment for Indian cricket! India reigns supreme as our women in blue win the ICC Women’s World Cup! Hearty congratulations to Team India for this extraordinary triumph, a wonderful display of talent, composure and teamwork. This victory will inspire generations to dream big and play courageously,” Stalin wrote on X.
Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also celebrated the moment. “Great scenes on TV tonight as India win the Women’s World Cup for the first time in our cricketing history! What a wonderful day for Indian cricket – and so much for the Women in Blue to be proud of on this inspiring day!” he posted.
