“Waiting for the next” is where Rafael Fiziev is, after he had won an important victory in Azerbaijan at home.
Lightweight Fiziev (13-4) returned to the winning column for the first time since 2022 with a unanimous decision victory on Ignacio Bahamondes on UFC Baku last month. The map was the debut of the promotion in the Azerbaijan of Fiziev.
“Win is Win, it’s always good. The last few years I had three losses, I missed that feeling,” he told Cageside Press in an exclusive interview. “I have a victory in my house, in my country, in my city, that is more than I could wish for. So good.”
It was not only three losses, but injuries also weigh on Fiziev. That was a rocky road for the talented lightweight, a road that was difficult to struggle. “It’s my life. Because I love fighting. I have fought since 11 years old. For me, this life, I don’t see myself in other ways. I just know, okay, now I have injuries, now I have a bad time, but I will heal, I will come back.”
In particular, Fiziev maintained his belief in his capacities. “I believe in my strength. I can be a top five, I can be a champion, I can fight with top boys and I can give them a good fight, and I am not an easy guy. I always know that. If we can say this, this is my motivation.”
Although Fiziev had driven the idea of moving to 145 pounds, especially after he came low for his second fight with Justin Gaethje, it seems that featherweight is off the table. “Now I have won more, my muscles are coming back. With a good camp I have big muscles. I can’t go to 145, so 155 for me, it’s a good one.”
What is also is a question. He was once booked against Dan hooker, what a fight is that he would like to accept again. “I don’t think he has now been agreed for this fight,” Fiziev remarked, indicating that the fight may not come out quickly. However, there are other names. “Now [Beneil] Dariush has returned to the victory [column]”He said. At the same time, Fiziev does not want to call names because they rarely agree to fight him.
“In my career I only count one man who says yes. Two boys, maybe. The first is [Rafael] DOS Anjos, and the second is [Justin] Gaethje. I called them both and they said, “Yes, let’s do this fight.” But other guys, it’s always like, I called someone, but UFC gives me another man. I called hooker, I am ready to fight him when he is ready. Dariush. I don’t know who has no fight now. Gamrot. Who is ready to fight? If UFC gives me someone, I am happy to fight with them. But I can’t say now, some names, “AWW I want to fight against this guy.”
‘[Mateusz] Gamrot the last time he said yes, then he started calling Paddy Pimblett after a few days. Such as ‘Hey Paddy Let’s Fight’, Fiziev added. ‘This company sometimes, [you’re] Get crazy. “
Yet we see well that Rafael Fiziev will be back in action towards the end of the year.
