Radio a trusted voice in towns and cities: PM Modi on World Radio Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said radio is a medium that has been a trusted voice for people, whether in remote villages or bustling cities, and has provided timely information, amplified talent and encouraged creativity.

The Prime Minister said World Radio Day – celebrated on February 13 every year – is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of everyone involved in this medium.

“World Radio Day is about celebrating a medium that is a trusted voice for people, whether in remote villages or bustling cities. For years, radio has provided timely information, amplified talent and encouraged creativity,” he said on X.

The Prime Minister, through his monthly radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’, said he has experienced first-hand the potential of radio to bring out the social power of the country’s people.

“This month’s program will take place on Sunday, February 22,” he said.

Mann Ki Baat started in October 2014, a few months after Modi took charge of the high office.

The program has served as a direct communication platform for the Prime Minister to share his thoughts on governance, social issues and inspiring stories with citizens. It airs every last Sunday of the month at 11am.

Be it cleanliness, social services, water conservation, sports or women empowerment, citizens can share their ideas and suggestions online with the Prime Minister for his radio programme.

In 2011, UNESCO announced that February 13 would be celebrated as World Radio Day to commemorate the founding of United Nations Radio in 1946.
