Racing stable daily life stories in February – when everything clicks into place
Do you know those weeks that you are wondering if you are doing something right all this time? Well, this has been one of those weeks – even the horse we thought it should be retired, has brought his best foot forward!
Starting at Newcastle, Kingston Rock went brilliant and was completely trained. A slip-up of the latter did not help his business and he finished fifth, but there is a lot of promise there for the future. This is that Bob has made an assessment error, but has ended the race, which gives us real hope as he gets more experience under his belt.
But it was Pinot Rouge who really caught my attention. We bought her private life from Ireland and she became very impressive on her first run, which was also her first time about obstacles. A few more meters and her third would first have been against a number of very good horses. She is now heading for the Doncaster Losed Mares Race in four weeks – the quality of the garden is growing, that is exactly what we strive for.
A very happy Jenna with Pinot Rouge after her first outing for us – well driven by EdAnd Buddy – For the first time ever the commentator got his name well! He was completely like another horse. After a few panting and a brilliant ride of Nathan, he became second. I kept my breath in the whole way.
Wetherby looked as if it might be the damper with rock -stable Eddie – the best known for how he uses his teeth – mildly looking while he was shocking in the back. Edward was planning to improve him and took him at a steadily pace. Then they left and steamed in to finish third, with the strange 100k horse behind him!
What a week – thanks to the team and our owners who work and have the patience to make these moments worthwhile. While Sam Coltherd waited for his ban, Ed Austin and Nathan filled the hole brilliantly. Ed is a very good price for his claim and did nothing wrong this week – he only needs the opportunities.
So what now? LESSE LEADY IN MUSSELBURGH IN about an hour! The best can continue …
This week we have Sedgefield with Velasco and Atomic Angel, Newcastle on the 8th with Royal Prospect and Newcastle on the 10th with a new horse for us – Kaidu.
Fingers crossed the horses to get better and better – but will our happiness hold? And what exactly happened to that horse that we thought could retire? Read on to find out …
Racing stable daily life stories in February 2024 – Seven runners and sweet redemption
Newsletter leaves again – Tut Tut! But this time I have a good reason – we have absolutely flown!
First of all, we had a brilliant start of February with seven runners producing two scoops, two seconds, a third and two that could have been better. The Runal Prospect run in Newcastle was actually one of his best versions in a much better race, so we are happy with that. Huge congratulations to the team for retaining these horses that fit because of rain, wind and absolutely ice -cold conditions – they have been heroes!
Now, here is a story about paying patience. Velasco disappointed us long enough that most of his owners withdrew. I don’t blame them – it’s heartbreaking when a horse doesn’t shoot. But Samantha was not put off and her patience has been rewarded again! Nathan Moscrop gave him a big front ride over the shorter distance, and suddenly everything clicked in place. Sometimes you just have to believe.
The rest of the garden continues to build fitness or work on their next races. The horses on the sick list are back to work, including theater light, that is great news. We have no runners this week, apart from Wotyoudunnow Buddy in Musselburgh – yes, that is really his name! – But we have drawn up quite a bit for the end from the middle to the end of February. Kingston Rock goes to Carlisle on Monday.
Our flat youngsters came to fitness very quickly, but we are waiting for the turf to start it. The exception is our newbie kaidu, bought from tatts and run for the display of the castle and Girsonfield Racing Club. He walks on February 22 – the last time he was third, driven by Holly Doyle, so we are hopeful.
Wotyoudunnow Buddy in trainingRacing Stable Daily Life Stories in February: Racing ahead
- 18th Musselburgh – Buddy
- 19th Carlisle – Kingston Rock
- 22nd Newcastle – Kaidu, first ride for us …
And we can now reveal the mystery! The horse we thought of retired is Buster, and Faye hopes to take him for his well -deserved retirement. But does Buster get one last hurray before he hangs his racing shoes? And how will our newcomer Kaidu do it in his debut for us?

At the end of February 2024 – 90% to praise money and Irish TV!
Grclub – 2 shares available for £ 100 per month per share
- March 12 in Newcastle for Kaidu
- March 14 in Hexham Rock Steady Eddie
The Northern Racing ClubWhat a February it has been! About 90% of our runners have affected prize money – Woo! We even have a mention on Irish TV this week, all to do with Pinot Rouge’s third in a beginner. Sometimes I have to squeeze myself!
This has been a week of real performance. Both Kingston Rock and this is Bob managed seconds, and I could not be more proud. KR – or Paddy as we call him – did not do anything wrong and postponed his pursuit career because it certainly looks like he will first win obstacles.
As for Bob, well, his syndicate has waited and waited, but he has finally become good! Just beaten with Charlotte Jones, although the race was very short for him. We look again over two miles four Furlongs.
The horses that qualified for the final in April are building up well, and it is likely that I may have more than one mention in some races – which I absolutely hate, but the second and third prizes are still very good money! February has been an excellent month to race, and it is not yet done with Beaumesnil on the way to Wetherby on Thursday.
VelascoMarch does not seem to be less exciting, with the early weeks full of runners. Jimmybegood for the naughty but beautiful syndicate heads of Newcastle for his debut – both for the group and for him!
They deserve success because he has not been easy, but we are ready to start. He did his maternity test last week and … well, let’s say it was moved! He shunned to the wings, stood on his own foot, pulled the shoe off, almost threw Jamie out and then went to perfectly completing his maternityest! That is Jimmy for you.
Dandycan, who only had one race last year, also goes to Newcastle in the race after Jimmy. He has strengthened a lot and I expect that both he and Jimmy will make a good report of himself.
Then it is on the way to Doncaster with Pinot Rouge for Stuart and Steve – Big Race, a mentioned mares. Velasco can also go to Doncaster on Sunday, which would be a good race for him.
So here is what is going on:
- February 29: Beaumesnil at Wetherby
- March 1: Jimmybegood and Dandycan
- March 2: Pinot Rouge at Doncaster
- March 3: Velasco at Doncaster
- 5th: Newcastle, maybe Buddy and Charzard – a new horse for the goodfellow partnership
- 6th: catterick, maybe Champ, Buddy and Velasco – all Maybes!
- 7th: the fault of rose at Carlisle
- 8th: Ayr with Kingston Rock and Theater Light
- 10th: Kelso with Les Legacy and maybe champion
- 12th: Newcastle with new boy Kaidu for the Grclub
It is an absolute crazy schedule, but that is exactly how I like it! The question is – will the stalls of Jimmybegood be a sign of the things that come, or was he that only he takes his nerves out? And can Pinot Rouge deal with the listed company?
Everything will be revealed in the coming weeks!
