Racing returns to Burnie after weather delays

Harness Racing returns to Tasmania’s northwest coast, with the Burnie Harness Racing Club set to host an eight-race card in the Twilight Zone on Monday.

The meeting was scheduled to take place on Friday but was postponed until Monday due to the weather in the state.

Several clubs took part in the Tasmania Sporting Challenge on Friday, with nine local sporting clubs in the hunt for a share of $4,500.

Dylan Ford has ridden nine winners from 29 runs at the Burnie circuit in the past 12 months, three wins more than the next best driver at the Burnie circuit.

Ford has several opportunities to expand that number in the twilight program and give Wazza a rating race foura mobile start event with a score of 55 to 60 over 2180 meters, as one of his best chances on the program.

“He has been placed in Group 1 and he is a horse that I think the tight circuit will suit him.

“He’s getting a nice backlog and I liked his win in the last start at Launceston,” Ford said.

Ashante Queen will make her first standing start attempt in the Thank you Ridgley Rascals – Relay For Life Pace (2180m), and she recently won a standing start trial in Hobart before finishing fifth.

“If she can ping to the top, I think she has a good chance.

“She’ll go, I’m just not sure how fast she’ll be, but she’ll get around the track, which always helps with Burnie,” the driver said.

Monday’s Burnie card kicks off at 4:47pm and maintains full Sky Racing 2 coverage.
