Abu Dhabi, VAE – Japanese martial arts promotion Quintet has announced its official access to the Midden -Oostenmarkt, with its inaugural regional event, Quintet 5, which takes place in Dubai on October 23, 2025.
The announcement came during a press conference that was held earlier today at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, as part of Fight Week -a large sports initiative with international MMA events organized in the UAE capital. The event was led by Kazushi Sakuraba, the legendary founder of Quintet and one of the most iconic figures in the Japanese MMA history, alongside Tarek Suleiman, the regional partner of Quintet and veteran martial artist. Mr. Yanagisawa, general manager of Quintet Japan, also attended the announcement.
The event attracted broad regional and international media and was attended by prominent figures from the MMA community, including Ali Al Qaisi, one of the most experienced featherweights in the world, and internationally renowned referee Marc Goddard.
Quintet known for its distinctive five-on-five Team Grijp format, Quintet eliminates full points and judges ends in submission or draw. The format combines the tactical team strategy with the traditional martial arts of martial arts and has already received considerable traction in Japan and the United States.
“For Japanese martial artists, Abu Dhabi is a name that we have always kept to a large extent,” said Sakuraba, who received applause when he addressed the crowd. “We have looked from far how to embrace the of Jiu-Jitsu and elevated it to something bigger than just a sports-a cultural and national movement. To launch Kwintet here is not only symbolic, but useful. People understand the art. The government supports it. And the athletes live it here.”
Suleiman, a former quintet competitor himself, emphasized the vision behind this movement. “This is not only once. We are here to build something that takes,” he said. “The VAE has become a global destination for combat sports, and now it will be the home base for team-based grab in the region. Via Quintet we want to offer athletes a new platform-one that prioritizes cooperation, strategy and team proud.”
The event in Dubai marks the start of a broader route map to set up a sustainable grip eco -system in the middle East. Teams from the entire Mena region are expected to participate in the October event, while organizers work on building a long-term competition and talent pipeline that matches the growing sports ambitions of the region.
