VANCOUVER– PWHL VANCOUVER announced today that defender Ashton Bell has signed a two-year contract extension to stay with the team via the PWHL season 2027-28 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). PWHL Vancouver acquired Bell with another year in her PWHL contract when she was first selected in the 2025 PWHL extension In June.
“We are delighted to form a long -term obligation with Ashton and her help in leading our defensive core in Vancouver during our first three seasons,” said Cara Gardner Morey, general manager of PWHL Vancouver. “Ashton will play an important role in building the base of our defense. She will be a leader both on the ice and in the dressing room, and we are pleased to have her with us until 2027-28.”
The 25-year-old from Deloraine, Manitoba, spent the last two seasons with the Ottawa declaration and was named the PWHL All-smokie team of 2024 in the inaugural season of the competition, together with colleague PWHL Vancouver defender Sophie Jaques. Last season, Bell registered three goals and three assists in 27 regular season matches and then played in all eight Playoff matches of Ottawa and scored in the opening victory of the team on Montréal.

Bell is a triple IIHF ladies world championship gold medal winner (2021, 2022, 2024) and an Olympic champion, who represented Canada at the Winter Olympics of 2022 in Beijing. Her considerable international experience started at the U18 level, with silver medals in the U18 worlds 2016 and 2017. Bell played from 2017 to 2023 with the University of Minnesota -Duluth, with 119 points to 164 games (43G, 76a). She claimed Team MVP subjessions in 2020-21 and had worked with the team with former Charge teammate Gabbie Hughes in her last season.

Already in my short time this city and the excitement around having a team from the West is incredible,” Bell said. “This season I can’t wait for Puck Drop and to be next to the inaugural group that brings professional women’s hockey to Vancouver. This is the start of something special and I am looking forward to building a legacy together.”
Bell is part of a strong PWHL Vancouver Defense Core die Claire Thompson, Sophie Jaques, Sydney Bard, Mellissa Channel-Watkins and Emma Greco and one of the three players is currently signed by the 2027-28 season, along with Jaques and Hannah Miller.
Season Ticket memberships for the inaugural season of PWHL Vancouver are available through the PWHL Vancouver -website. Starting at $ 27 per match, seasonal card memberships are a reserved chair for all 13 2025-26 home games in the regular season in the Pacific Coliseum and the status of the founders of the season.
