Putin stands up for Trump’s bid for the Nobel Peace Prize: ‘Credibility has largely been lost’

Russian president Vladimir Putin has spoken out in support of the president Donald Trump‘s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize. This follows the decision of the Nobel Committee to award the Peace Prize Maria Corina Machadoa Venezuelan opposition leader.

Putin expressed his disappointment with the Nobel Committee during a visit to Tajikistan on Friday. He criticized the commission for not recognizing the US leader’s peace efforts.

According to one report By Associated Press, the Russian president questioned the credibility of the commission, stating that this “credibility has largely been lost.” He criticized the committee for awarding the prize to individuals who he believes have not contributed significantly to peace.

“There have been cases when the Nobel Committee awarded the prize to people who have done nothing for peace. That has damaged the prestige of the prize,” Putin said.

Despite war crimes charges by the International Criminal Court and an ongoing war in Ukraine, Putin praised Trump’s efforts to resolve long-standing crises.

He pointed to Trump’s recent announcement of the first phase of a peace deal between Israel and Hamas as evidence of his ability to build peace.

“Trump is really doing a lot to resolve crises that have lasted for years, in some cases decades. Trump is sincerely pursuing peace in Ukraine. The most striking example of his peacemaking credentials is the situation in the Middle East,” Putin added.

The Nobel Committee awarded the Peace Prize to Machado, an outspoken critic of the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, in recognition of her advocacy for judicial independence, human rights and popular representation.

This decision has sparked controversy, with Putin one of the notable figures to express his disappointment and defend Trump’s candidacy.
