I was browsing our sister sites this morning and saw this question asked by Battery powerhome of the Atlanta Braves. In the aftermath of yesterday’s Super Bowl, it seemed like a pertinent question.
For most of the Super Bowl, it looked like Seattle Seahawks kicker Jason Myers was going to win MVP as he played a NFL record with five field goals in the Super Bowl. However, things started to improve in the fourth quarter – the first touchdown of the game was scored with 13:24 left in the game – and the Seahawks eventually defeated the New England Patriots 29-13.
By comparison, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in last year’s Super Bowl, with the scores more evenly distributed across all four quarters.
To put a baseball spin on this, I’ll ask you this question: Do you prefer pitchers’ duels or brawls?
We support the Colorado Rockies, who should (theoretically) be involved in more brawls at Coors Field. However, they also sometimes get involved in pitchers’ duels, especially in some stadiums in California.
Slugfests obviously contain more action. Baseballs fly through the air and players run all over the field, but it also takes longer (sorry, Rob Manfred, but you can’t do much offense And short games). Meanwhile, pitchers’ duels are shorter matches that require more strategy, but they can be ‘boring’ at times because of the lack of action.
Last year, the first slugfest the Rockies were involved in was on April 6 against the Athletics, where they defeated them 12-5 in Chase Dollander’s MLB debut. Dollander was also involved in a daring no-hitter game against Tyler Glasnow and the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 8 (the Rockies ultimately lost 3-1).
Last year, of course, there were a few of each, but these were the ones that stood out to me.
So, Purple Row night owls, what do you say? Which one do you prefer?
