In a major intelligence-led operation, Amritsar Rural Police, in close coordination with central agencies, arrested two terror operatives and recovered a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) intended for a targeted terror attack in Punjab.
The suspects have been identified as Mehakdeep Singh and Aditya. Preliminary investigation revealed that both were in touch with a Pakistan-based ISI operative, who allegedly sent the weapon, and Harpreet Singh, who is currently in Ferozepur jail.
According to SSP Amritsar Rural, Maninder Singh: “Under the directives of CM Bhagwant Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, the Special Cell of Amritsar Rural Police has arrested Mehak and Adi in connection with anti-national activities organized by Pakistan’s ISI against Punjab. We have recovered an RPG-22 anti-tank weapon from them. These persons, aged between 18 and 19 years old, were lured with promises of money to carry out malicious activities. The weapon was received via a drone intended for a targeted terrorist attack.”
The FIR has been registered at PS Gharinda, Amritsar, and investigations are underway to unravel the entire network behind the plot.
DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed, “Punjab Police remains steadfast in its mission to dismantle transnational terror and organized crime networks sponsored by Pakistan’s ISI and maintain peace and harmony in Punjab.”
