Pune-Nashik Railway Corridor Real Upal is completed: Vaishnaw

Minister of Baan of the Union Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the recking plan for the Pune-Nashik-Spoorweg project is being completed and that the work starts as soon as the Maharashtra government approves.

The earlier coordination of the proposed high-speed rail corridor went through the limited zone of 15 km around the gigantic Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) in the village of Khodad near Narayangaon, about 60 km from Pune.

Scientists had expressed concern that the movement of trains through this zone could disrupt the functioning of the radioor service.

Mr. Vaishnaw On Saturday (3 May 2025) said: “The GMRT has a great scientific significance, which has been established with cooperation from 23 countries. The activities can be impeded by the earlier coordination, so a re -effect is prepared to prevent interference. As soon as the state government approves the new route, the work can continue.”

The GMRT, about 80 km from Pune, works in the frequency range of 150-1420 MHz and consists of 30 antennas, each 45 meters in diameter. It is managed by the National Center for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).

Mr. Vaishnaw also announced an important upgrade for Pune train station, referring to the historic and industrial importance of the city.

He said the station would be equipped with facilities of world class and four new platforms.

He spoke after marking two new Express trains, the Hadapsar-Jodhpur Express and the Mgr Chennai Central-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express by Hadapsar near Pune.

The minister also said that the redevelopment plans for six stations – Pune, Hadapsar, Khadki, Shivajinagar, Uruli Kanchan and Alandi are in their final phase.

He said that discussions were held with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis with regard to a Vande Bharat train between Pune and Nagpur.
