Point Dume continued a banner season Tuesday afternoon with the biggest win of his Parx Racing career, capturing the $75,000 MP Ballezzi Appreciation Mile Stakes for Bush Racing Stable and trainer Timothy Kreiser.
Ridden by Angel Cruz, the four-year-old gelding by Into Mischief out of Maya Malibu (by Malibu Moon) broke sharply, picking up the early pace and taking the lead before the half-mile mark. From there he rode clear and held tight to the wire, winning by a length and a half in 1:37.98 on a fast main circuit.
It marked the first win for Point Dume, who has been a model of consistency in 2025. The win was his fifth of the season and eighth overall from 26 starts, increasing his career earnings to $351,290.
Irish Cork rallied from last on the inside to finish second, while Adero chased three wide and lay flat for third. Early pacesetter Bernie’s Mitts, the tepid 2-1 favorite, tired to fourth.
Point Dume paid $13.40 to win as the fifth choice in an even field in which six of the eight runners were under 10-1. The exacta with 9-1 Irish Cork underneath returned $118.00 on a two dollar bet.
NOTES Parx Racing also inducted three into the Hall of Fame on Tuesday. Ed Simon, director of finance for the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, was inducted into the Special Achievement category, while multi-ranked gelding Favorite Tale and owner Chuck Zacney and his Cash Is King LLC operation were also inducted… Favorite Tale, trained by Guadalupe Preciado for PJG Stable, earned more than $1 million in a career that lasted from 2014 to 2018 and included two judged wins… Cash Is King has campaigned, alone or in partnership, countless good horses over the years. The most prominent of these are dual-Classic winner Afleet Alex, winner of the 2005 Preakness and Belmont, and 2016 Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia…
