At today’s launch of the Proton Saga MC3 2025, DRB-Hicom group director Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar announced that future models from the national automaker will emerge from the Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) that underpins the latest version of the Saga.
Because the AMA is modular in nature, it can be stretched or shortened to suit the car coming off the platform, raising the possibility of several new Saga body styles including a hatchback, an MPV and an SUV.
As for the just-launched Saga MC3, Proton’s latest model gets hot-pressed (HPF) steel B-pillars and floor crossmembers, along with an advanced high-strength steel roof crossmember and high-strength steel door bars. These updates have stiffened the bodywork to such an extent that the new model can remove the old car’s strut tower brace and thus maintain its four-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

According to Proton, the AMA is “flexible, scalable and future-proof” and is designed to meet international safety, performance and efficiency standards, and Proton owns full intellectual property rights to the platform, strengthening its “growing technical capabilities,” Proton said.
Proton has also said it is open to collaboration within the wider Geely group, which could “potentially position Malaysia as a regional engineering hub for future model development,” the company said. The broadening of the product range based on the AMA platform will contribute to Proton’s growth ambitions, also at an international level.
The national carmaker currently has a presence in 18 export markets and expects a 10-fold increase in sales volume over the next five years through growth in international markets, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Aziz said today at the launch of the 2026 Proton Saga MC3.
