Dozens of protesters gathered in East Los Angeles on Thursday in response to the deadly ICE shooting in Minneapolis.

Several attendees showed up to mourn the death of Renee Nicole Good, the woman fatally shot by a federal agent.

“I am here to mourn a real tragedy, a loss of life, but also the loss of freedom, truth and justice,” said Father Brendan Busse at the Delores Mission Church. “I just think about this poor woman, a mother, who was murdered by the federal government, and the many other people who continue to suffer under this government.”

The demonstration started at Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights around 5 p.m. Many protesters came with their families to connect with their communities and express their frustration.

“I feel like we’re all feeling helpless. I’m at my house, we’re all at our house watching this happen,” Estella Pena said. “I feel like it’s so important to be here because you get a sense of community and you see that you’re not alone.”

According to the LAPD, the group of protesters marched west from Boyle Heights and blocked several streets.

The demonstrations across the country come after the Department of Homeland Security and the Trump administration said the lives of Minneapolis officers were endangered and that the shooting was justified.

The killing of 37-year-old Good on Wednesday set off a clash between federal and state officials over whether the shooting appeared justified and whether a Minnesota law enforcement agency had jurisdiction to investigate.

Good, a U.S. citizen born in Colorado, described herself on social media as a “poet and writer, wife and mother.” Her ex-husband said Good had just dropped her 6-year-old son off at school on Wednesday and was driving home when she encountered ICE agents on a residential street.
