South Africa completed their second ODI series victory in England with a 5-run victory at Lord’s.
Despite the test conditions with the bat and a late English increase in buttler and Archer, the disciplined approach to South Africa and important breakthroughs turned out to be the difference at crucial moments.
The Proteas lost the pitch and were first brought into the bat with Lord’s. The light drizzle for the competition saw a delayed start.
The circumstances did not make it easy to hit.
Markram and Rickelton started well. They turn on 73 before Rickelton skied for a simple catch by the keeper. He was out for 35 out of 33 balls.
Bavuma did not last long in the middle, he was swallowed up by Adil Rashid, Sa lost their 2nd for 78 points.
Markram is said to have kicked himself, only one point short of back-to-back milestones, he immediately hit the ball back to Rashid. Sa was now 93-3 after 19 overs.
Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs were solid and accurate.
The couple brought SA to 240 with a 147-run partnership.
Breetzke was fired by an Archer Yorker LBW after 85 out of 77 balls (7 four, 3 sixes). He now has five 50-plus scores in 5 games. Nobody did that in ODI Cricket.
Stubbs also spent half a century, a second of his career. He scored 58 of 62 balls (2 four, 1 six) before he was contracted. Sa was now 259-5 after 42 overs.
Brevis took South Africa three points shy of 300, hit 3 sixes and 3 four for his 20-ball 42. His attacking intention saw him upper edge to backwards square.
Bosch’s 32 Not Out was handy at the back and helped SA after 330-8, the second highest total at Lord’s in Odis.
The highest successful Run-Achtervolging at Lord’s was 326-8 in 2002 by India.
South Africa got the perfect start with the ball. He found the inner edge of the first ball of Jamie Smith.
England worked back in the competition. They brought herself to 66, but on the last ball of the 13th, no. 1 Odi Bowler Keshav Maharaj Bowled Ben Duckett.
Joe Root (61 from 72 balls) and Jacob Bethell (58 from 40 balls) were the key to the chase. But they were both fired. Bosch took Bethell out to lower England to 143-3, after which Maharaj orchestrated the stump of the root to make it 147-4 with 25 overs.
Despite explosive beats by Jos Butler 61 (51), Will Jacks 39 (33) and an impressive cameo by Jofra Archer 27 (14), in which the game went to the thread, the Proteas won the victory and won with 5 points.
This is their second ODI victory in England since their victory in 1998.
