Tonight’s UFC Vancouver event was headlined by a highly anticipated welterweight bout between Kevin Holland and Mike Malott.
Holland (28-15 MMA) participated for the fifth time this calendar year by walking to the Octagon this evening. ‘Trailblazer’ had previously competed at the UFC 318 event in July, where he suffered a decision loss to Daniel Rodriguez. Before that setback, the Netherlands of course achieved a victory over Vicente Luque.
Meanwhile, Mike Malott (13-2-1 MMA) was tonight’s co-headliner on a two-fight winning streak, with his most previous win coming by knockout over Charles Radtke at May’s UFC 315 event in Montreal. ‘Proper’ wanted to improve to 6-1 tonight in the Octagon.
Tonight’s UFC Vancouver co-main event did not result in the fan-friendly fight most were hoping to see. After landing a knockdown midway through the opening round, Kevin Holland suffered a pair of low-blow mistakes that seemingly turned the tide in the fight. After nearly not making it out of the second round, Holland opted to continue on his own to stay out of the point and was smothered by Mike Malott throughout the second and third rounds. It was a big win for Malott, but one that will certainly be seen as controversial due to the unpunished fouls.
