A away match on Leicester’s Training Ground was the second match of Liverpool of their short-term PL Cup campaign for this season.
While they had a strong keeper between the posts in Kornel Miscriur, coach Simon Wiles played a young side, including right back Lenix Conde, first -year -old learned Harvey Owen and midfielder Olie O’Connor.
This was the first start of the 17-year-old of the season after an injury before the start of the campaign.
After they had lost their opening group match at home against Aston Villa, the Reds knew that they realistically needed a victory to have a chance to continue in their last group match against Newcastle.
However, the 7-1 victory of Aston Villa over the magpies in the other group match of the day means that they cannot get through it, even if they won their last match.
A strike by Leicester’s Joseph Corden on the hour, immediately after emerging, caused their elimination, although Liverpool made almost the same through replacement Finn Inglethorpe that hit the woodwork.
Despite the defeat, there were some encouraging signs for Wiles told Liverpoolfc.com: “We had a few changes in our line-up and it was an opportunity to give some game time to players and that was the first start of Oliver O’Connor since the return of an injury.

“In the first half we played well against the wind, we moved the ball well with our structure, but missed that last action in the last third part when some of our decisions could have been a little better.
“La’more Lee Forrester was a real constant threat to us and caused problems, which was pleasant.
“I love the game with still fairly positive thoughts from our first half display and there are areas that we have to continue to work on, so a really good learning for all players.”
