Audi rear seat belt retractors can cause problems when using child seats.

— Nearly 28,000 Audi vehicles are being recalled due to problems with the rear seat belt retractors and their operation with child seats.

Audi says the auto-locking retractor may not engage if a child seat is installed with the seat belt.

These models are part of the rear seat belt recall:

  • 2025 Audi SQ6 e-tron

  • 2025 Audi SQ6 Sportback e-tron

  • Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron from 2025

  • 2025 Audi A6

  • 2025 Audi A5

  • Audi A6 Sportback e-tron from 2025

  • 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron

  • 2025 Audi S5

  • Audi S6 Sportback e-tron from 2025

In particular, the auto-locking retractor may fail to prevent the seat belt strap from being extended beyond the permitted length after locking when a seat belt is used to secure a child seat.

An Audi driver who uses a seat belt instead of the LATCH child seat system will find that the seat belt may not stop until the seat belt is fully retracted.

Audi discovered the problem in September 2025 when a problem occurred with the locking function of the child seat. The supplier and Audi determined that the issues with the rear seat belts and child restraints violated federal safety standards.

Audi rear seat belt recall notices are due February 17, 2026, at which time dealers will inspect and possibly replace the right and left rear seat belts.

Audi owners can contact Audi at 800-253-2834 and ask for the rear seat belt recall number 69D8.
