Probation staff is told not to use the expression chemical castration in conversations with pedophiles and sex offenders in case it disrupts them.
Officers were called in briefings this week after the sun has revealed that rapists and other mean criminals will get drugs to suppress their sexual drives.
It can be made mandatory according to plans that are considered part of the conviction review, unveiled by justice secretary Shabana Mahmood this week.
A test will be rolled out to 20 prisons in England and Wales, with the medicines offered on a voluntary basis with the aim of managing sex offenders, both behind bars and when they are released to the community.
Probation officers maintain contact with prison staff and supervise prisoners after their release and checking that they adhere to their license conditions.
A source told the Sun: “We were told that we cannot use the word chemical castration when they talk to sex offenders and instead have to say medicines to manage problematic sexual arousal.
“We were told that in case it is the word castration that she is upset – it is the belief of a beggar.”
It reflects the expression that Mrs. Mahmood used in parliament when she told MEPs on Thursday: “The review has recommended that we continue a pilot of so -called medication to manage problematic sexual arousal.
“I will continue with a national rollout, starting in two regions for 20 prisons. And I investigate whether it is mandatory to make the approach possible.”
New polls released on Friday showed that 67 percent of the British say that they “strongly support” the idea of chemical castration or “somewhat support”, while only 16 percent “somewhat against” or “strong against”.
The independent conviction review of David Lawke, who was published on Thursday morning, ordered more research into how chemical oppression for sex offenders can help stop “problematic sexual arousal”.
The drugs offered include hormonal drugs that can suppress testosterone levels, reducing the libido.
Other options are not -hormonal medicines known as selective serotonin re -admission inhibitors that are often prescribed as antidepressants.
A Ministry of Justice Spokesperson said, “This sentence is just the medical term for this treatment.”
