ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott threw for two touchdowns, Malik Davis ran 43 yards for a score and the Dallas Cowboys overcame two fourth-down touchdown passes from Patrick Mahomes to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28 on Thanksgiving Day Thursday.
CeeDee Lamb scored Dallas’ first touchdown and finished with 112 yards on seven receptions, four days after drops hit the star receiver in a win over Philadelphia, the defending Super Bowl champion.
In the final two games, the Cowboys (6-5-1) completed a sweep of last season’s Super Bowl teams. They earned their third consecutive victory and condemned the Chiefs (6-6), the current American Conference champions, to return to the .500 mark by winning a game between two teams chasing playoff tickets after a poor start to the campaign.
Mahomes had four touchdown passes in his first professional game at the home of the Cowboys, where he made three appearances for Texas Tech, not far from his roots in the eastern part of the state.
Travis Kelce caught Mahomes’ first fourth-down touchdown pass on a two-yard play. The second touchdown reception, by Rashee Rice, came on fourth-and-3 early in the fourth quarter.
Kansas City trailed by 10 when Mahomes was nearly tackled behind the line of scrimmage by Quinnen Williams, but he kept his balance and found a completely unmarked Xavier Worthy for a 42-yard gain. So the table was set for a 10-yard touchdown pass to Hollywood Brown with 3:27 minutes left.
Prescott and company didn’t give Mahomes another chance.
