Our Premier League Awards honor the best – and worst – top action of the weekend, featuring Michael Carrick, Casemiro and Brian Brobbey.
Moment of the week
The biggest story of the weekend was in Manchester, as a caretaker coach Michael Carrick had a dream derby debut. Carrick’s second reign as interim coach began with the Manchester Derby, but few expected the turn of events. United were the better side from start to finish, with Manchester City overwhelmed at Old Trafford.
Casemiro rolled back the years in midfield, helped brilliantly by the returning Kobbie Mainoo. How Ruben Amorim continued to overlook this last point, we will never know…
Elsewhere, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire held Erling Haaland goalless, and Bruno Fernandes was, well, Bruno Fernandes. The talisman again.
Carrick can’t get carried away with this result or performance, but it’s certainly a start. The challenge is to ensure it is not another false dawn.

An honorable mention goes to West Ham’s late showing at Spurs.
Callum Wilson has seen his name linked with a move away from London in the past week after West Ham spent £50m on two new strikers.
Instead, the veteran showed exactly what he can still offer, grabbing a goal in the final gap after his introduction in stoppage time. Wilson now has five league goals in just 811 minutes of football. There is a place for him in Nuno’s plans for the run-in.

Player of the week
Right place, right time, repeatedly. Casemiro was the basis for Manchester United’s victory on derby day, with the Brazilian shutting down Manchester City throughout.
Football has not yet left the five-time Champions League winner…

Goal of the week
Brian Brobbey is growing into its role as an outlet for Sunderland. The Dutch forward has scored two goals in three league games and scored brilliantly against Crystal Palace this weekend.
The power and improvisation were excellent. The man is a handful.
The power. The finish.

Rescue of the week
Morgan Rogers has seen attempts like this fly into the top corner several times this season. Not this time though. A great stop from England’s number one, as a full-length Jordan Pickford save denied his Three Lions teammate.
Jordan Pickford, that’s straight from the top drawer!

Statistic of the week
Eddie Howe admitted Newcastle lacked quality in the final third during a dull draw at Wolves.
The statistics certainly supported this assessment. Newcastle had 67% of the ball at Molineux but did not register a shot on target until the 85th minute.
0 – Newcastle United’s first-half completion percentage against Wolves (94%) was the highest of any team in a Premier League half of football without registering a shot on target (recorded since 2003–04). Sideways. pic.twitter.com/UIe5UfODAA
