Former Minnesota Vikings who come back Alexander Mattison has not reached an age in the vicinity of ‘Over The Hill’.
Alexander Mattison is confronted with a tough fight to get his career back on the right track, especially with a busy depth card in his current team.
But his recent and upcoming career process suggests that Mattison may have trouble finding power in the competition. The Vikings selected Mattison from Round 3 of the NFL design of 2019 and remained attached to the Vikings for five seasons, the end of 2023.
Mattison signed last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, struggled to make an impact and joined the Miami Dolphins in March.
However, it must be wondered whether the scheme in Miami will last.
Alexander Mattison can be cut by dolphins this summer
The dolphins have a pretty damn busy running depth card. Here is the group that enters the summer:
- De’von Prock
- Jaylen Wright
- Alexander Mattison
- Ollie Gordon II
- Nate Noel
Some have wondered aloud whether Mattison will make the schedule of 53 men. FansedS Alicia de Artola recently wrote“Alexander Mattison looked replaceable since leaving the Vikings. De’von Achane is clearly the number 1 back in Miami. He has had more meters in each of his first two seasons than Mattison’s career-high.”
“Then there is Jaylen Wright, who described Raheem Mostert as” really something special “despite his limited Rookie production. Even if Wright did not reach his potential, the dolphins found a potential sleeper in Ollie Gordon in the sixth round this year.”
Gordon II should not have a problem to make the September schedule and to question the future of Mattison.
The Artiola continued: “In a particularly deep RB-class, Gordon slid to day 3, but let’s not forget that he was a unanimous all-American as a second-year student at the university with 2,062 Yards and 22 touchdowns of Scrimmage. ACHANE, Wright and Gordon were each arranged.
“Apparently the dolphins added Mattison as a veteran consence in a particularly young running back room. So I would claim that his chance of cut is relatively low, but the fact that it exists at all, speaks to a steep fall for a former third round that 13 games for the Vikings started two years ago.”
A depth card too busy
If you are a Mattison enthusiastic, well, Achahane, Wright and probably Gordon II for him on the depth card is worrying. Achane and Wright are total ditches to make the regular season schedule. Not disputable.
And Miami will probably not release Gordon II or throw him in the practice team for another team to poach.
Mattison probably leaves that behind the Bubble of Augustus.
Mattison misses goal line, speed
In the last few seasons, Mattison has not specialized in a single characteristic. That IS-HIJ is not a goal line of bowling ball, short Yardage Savant, speed trader or pass-catching assets.
After his first few seasons, when he looked great in relief of Dalvin Cook with the Vikings, Mattison transferred to a mediocre tailback – one that may not have the SAP to survive a summer competition against Gordon II.
It is average or lower in any meaningful return category.
Infusion of Rookie RBs not good for mid-tier RBS
Another problem for Mattison, with the dolphins and elsewhere, is the sudden inflow of declining backs into the NFL. Of course Rookie tailbacks become pro every year, but last month general managers withdrew 25 Running from seven rounds of the design.
Teams perhaps prefer ‘young legs’ after this dazzling RB concept class, which brings Mattison to a precarious place for his remaining NFL seasons.
Younger players – 25 of the April design – will make it more challenging for Mattison to stay employed.
Purpteptsd on Mattison in Mia
Janik Eckardt wrote About Mattison in Miami two months ago: “The dolphins had a vacancy in their running room. Ironically, Raheem Mostert left for the Las Vegas Raiders, practical jobs act with Mattison. A fascinating aspect is Mattison’s Fit in Miami. The Dolphins have given priority in his main priority.
“Top Rusher, 2023 Rookie De’Von Achane, still does that. Back -up and last year’s choice Jaylen Wright also had a 4.38, and was probably the slowest player in that room last season.”
The dolphins usually do not get involved in running the caliber of Mattison-not-speed stitches.
Eckardt added: “Mattison, on the other hand, is one of the slower running in the NFL. However, he is a powerful runner, which is probably why the dolphins were interested. Having different types of backs is logical. It will probably be used when more power is needed.”
Mattison has been able to finish in the practice teams of teams for too long.
