PM Modi granted the highest civil honor of Cyprus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was left on Monday (16 June 2025) with the large cross of the Order of Makarios III of Cyprus, the highest civil honor of the country.

“Heavenly to receive the ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III’ from Cyprus. I am wide up to the friendship between our nations,” the prime minister said after receiving the prize.

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has awarded the prize to the prime minister.

The order of Makarios III is the Senior Order of Knighthood named by the country named after the first President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III.

Mr. Modi devoted the prize to the 1.4 billion people of India and said it was a prize for the familiar India-cyprus friendship.

“I am convinced that our active partnership will hit new heights over time. Together we will not only strengthen the progress of our two nations, but also contribute to building a peaceful and safe world,” the prime minister said.

Mr. Modi is in Cyprus on the first stage of his tour of three national.

From Cyprus he will travel to Canada to attend the G7 top and then to Croatia.
