Premier Modi’s comments came only a few days after US President Donald Trump described India as a ‘dead economy’ while commenting on the ties of the country with Russia.
In the midst of the global economic unrest caused by the announcements of Donald Trump’s rate rise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeated the resilience of the Indian economy on Friday and stated that the nation is on his way to becoming the third largest economy in the world. The Prime Minister also convincingly argued for “Swadeshi” goods and saw them as the future.
Prime Minister Modi’s comments only came a few days after US President Donald Trump India called a “dead economy” about the relations of the country with Russia.
During a meeting in Varanasi, modes pointed to global economic turbulence and growing protectionism. “There is an atmosphere of global instability. All countries focus on their interests. India becomes the third largest economy in the world, and that is why India will have to remain alert to economic interests,” he said.
To support the Indian economy, the prime minister insisted on political unity. “Our government does everything in the best interest in the country … Those who want the best for the country and want to see India as the third largest economy in the world, whether it is a political party, should leave their differences aside and teach a resolution for ‘Swadeshi’ products,” Modi said.
He repeated his ‘vocal for local’ campaign and added: “We will only buy those things made by Indians. We must become vocal for local.”
The statement of Modi came after the social media -tweet of Trump on July 31, in which the US president attacked New Delhi’s ties with Moscow after explaining a 25% load on almost all Indian imports. “What India does with Russia is not worried.” I don’t care if they destroy their economies together, “wrote Trump.
