A day after an Air India passenger plane killed 241 people on board, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday morning to meet officials and revise the situation.

Modi is expected to visit the location of the aircraft crash and also meet the injured in the incident. According to the Gujarat government, a total of 50 injured people are currently being treated in the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad and is reportedly stable.

Among those killed by the crash, the former minister President of Gujarat Vijay Ruprui is. PM Modi is also expected to meet the nearest relatives of RUPPII in Gandhinagar. On Friday morning, Campbell Wilson, the MD and CEO of Air India also visited the crash site. In the meantime, Air India confirmed 241 of the 242 passengers and crew on board the fatal flight AI171 have died and the only survivor is treated in the hospital.

The Survivor is a British national of Indian descent. The 12-year-old Boeing 787-8 plane left Ahmedabad at 1338 hours, with 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The plane crashed just after taking off. The passengers consisted of 169 Indian subjects, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese Nationals and 1 Canadian National.

The number of deaths in the incident could be higher because the plane was burned in a residential complex of the BJ Medical Hospital in Meghaninagar. On Thursday evening, the Minister of the Interior said Amit Shah after a visit to the place of the accident that will reveal the exact number of deaths in the incident by the authorities after the DNA identification process has been completed. He said that more than 1,000 DNA samples will be collected to identify the victims of the crash. This includes samples of the bodies and of the nearest relatives of those who died in the incident.

The plane, according to Shah, wore 1.25 Lakh liter of fuel and it turned into a fireball after it crashed on Thursday afternoon. Tata Group said it will deliver £ 1 crore to the families of every person who have lost his life in the tragedy and will also cover the medical costs of the wounded. Moreover, the company will also offer support in building the hostel of the BJ Medical, which was destroyed in the crash.

On Friday, Air India stated that the “Friends & Feature Assistance Centers” set up in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Gatwick Airports to offer support to the families of the passengers of AI-171. These centers facilitate traveling from family members to Ahmedabad.
