Mohammed Siraj reflects on the World Cup ambitions
Siraj revealed that playing in a World Cup is something every player aspires to, regardless of the format. Having been part of India’s triumphant T20 World Cup campaign in 2024, the Hyderabad-born pacer understands the magnitude of such tournaments and the emotions that accompany selection conversations.
‘It is clear that playing in a World Cup is a dream for every player’ Siraj contradicted this while addressing the media on the eve of the third ODI New Zealand.
“I played the T20 World Cup last time but not this time. These things are part of a cricketer’s journey,” Siraj added.
Despite being left out of the 2026 edition, Siraj made it clear that there was no bitterness, only acceptance and motivation to keep pushing his limits.

The 30-year-old fast bowler was quick to endorse the selectors’ decision, stating that the chosen squad looks balanced and in great form. With India emphasizing younger, format-specific players for the shortest version of the game, Siraj acknowledged the direction the team management has taken.
Siraj also expressed hope that India can successfully defend its crown, adding confidently that the trophy belongs in the country for now and should stay there.
“The selected team looks very good on paper. Everyone is in good shape, and that’s what matters when you go into a big tournament. I just want to wish them the best of luck, the trophy is there for the time being and it should stay here,” Siraj further added.
