- The new Pixel Weather app from Google was launched last year with the Pixel 9 series.
- Although the availability of pixels has since been extended to other pixel models, that has not included AI forecasts.
- Now Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a report with Gemini Nano that AI predictions have started working.
Almost all of us rely on weather forecasts to help our days plan, and although you have no shortage of weather apps to choose from Android, Google’s own pixel weather must be one of our favorites. However, as large as it is, that app is not without limitations, such as how it is only available for pixel devices. More than that, not all functions are universally available in the pixel arrangement, and although that is not a situation that we will probably see for good, it is one that is currently getting a little better.
Pixelweer initially debuted for the Pixel 9 series, but with last fall’s Pixel drop, Google expanded the availability to the Pixel 6 family. And although that was great to see happen, the hardware of the Pixel 9 enabled to offer a locally generated AI-driven prediction that was not available in the same way on lesser pixels.
At least, that has been the situation in recent months, but in recent weeks we have discovered reports that point to that change. You may remember that Google gave the Pixel 8 series and Pixel 8a access to Gemini Nano last year, she theoretically prepared for only this type of AI function on the phone. And although it is a long time ago, we now hear from users who are starting to see Pixel Weather ai forecasts on their Pixel 8 -hand sets.
After you first spotted a user Ayushman in the Telegram Gapsleaks Groups that share the presence of AI forecasts on their Pixel 8A, we went looking for further confirmation and see Reddit messages from users such as users Noryaka2288 And Stalkerusha confirm the same.

Have you not seen such a thing on your own Pixel 8 or Pixel 8A? Well, there is probably a very good reason for that. First, you want to be sure Gemini Nano is enabled in the developers settings of your phone. Then you also want to perform the newest Gemini Nano model. From the sound of things, however, you can be automatically asked to update Nano when starting pixel weather.
It feels a bit strange that this support seems to be so late after the necessary documents were already present, and even now we have a number of big questions about the intentions of Google for this expansion. But even without having the complete picture, this is still a great progress to see, making our favorite weather -app just a little better on even more devices.
