PGA appoints Clark as new CEO

Terry Clark has served as an independent director on the PGA board of directors since 2024.

TThe PGA of America has named healthcare executive Terry Clark its new CEO, effective March 2, it announced Wednesday.

Clark, most recently Chief Marketing Officer of UnitedHealth Group, has served as an independent director on PGA’s board of directors since 2024. He will succeed Derek Sprague, a longtime PGA professional and former association president who resigned last month after just a year in the role.

“Terry has earned the trust of the board through years of disciplined leadership, common sense and a deep respect for the PGA of America, our members and our mission,” said Nathan Charnes, vice president of the PGA of America, who is set to become president of the association in November. “As an independent director, Terry has gained firsthand insight into our strategic priorities and the critical role that PGA of America golf professionals play at every level of the game. He has a proven ability to lead complex organizations with clarity and rigor, while fostering collaboration and accountability among diverse stakeholders. At a time when continuity, stability and long-term focus are essential, the board is confident that Terry is the right leader to lead the association forward and continue to advance the game in meaningful and sustainable ways.”

In addition to his role on the PGA of America board, Clark led the corporate sponsorship of healthcare brand Optum as a partner of the Players Championship, working closely with professional golf leadership, tournament teams and broadcast partners. His experience includes working with major golf media platforms including Golf Channel and NBC, participation in live events and broadcast initiatives, and involvement in player sponsorship relationships.
