Pep Guardiola lost the plot thanks to Newcastle United, even the best shows…

Pep Guardiola is the best there is, winning trophy after trophy with Manchester City, and the same with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

However, it just goes to show that even the best can crumble under pressure when they react to adversity and things don’t go their way.

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team appeared at St James’ Park last weekend after a run of 14 games that included just one defeat: 11 wins and two draws.

However, the Man City boss was still under pressure as his team needed to win at Newcastle United if they were to avoid falling too far behind Arsenal in the title race.

What followed, however, was Newcastle United proving much more threatening and beating Manchester City, with the visitors fortunate to lose by just one goal.

Pep Guardiola is proving the epitome of the proverbial sore loser with his embarrassing behavior after the final whistle at St James’ Park.

The Man City manager embarrassingly confronted Bruno Guimaraes, he did the same to the match referee, while perhaps most embarrassing of all, Pep Guardiola even confronted a cameraman.

In any case, when he thought about it later, Pep Guardiola apologized for taking out his anger and frustration on the cameraman…

“I apologize. I am embarrassed and ashamed. I don’t like it. I apologized after a second.

“I am who I am. Even after a thousand matches I’m not a perfect person, I make big mistakes.

“What is certain is that I defend my team and my club. TThe reason why I want to defend my team and my club. There’s no doubt.

“From my experience, to win the Premier League we need to have 100 points and 98 points, otherwise we won’t win.”

While Pep Guardiola talked a good game by giving the impression that he had gotten that anger and frustration out of his system thanks to what Newcastle United had done to his psyche, his next team selection told us something else…

Against Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, Pep Guardiola lost the plot when he changed ten players from his team. A painful 2-0 home defeat against the Bundesliga team followed.

The Manchester City boss himself then admitted that he may have overreacted ‘a bit’ when he made those ten changes and suffered yet another defeat.

Now at home to Leeds on Saturday, Pep Guardiola has made nine changes, returning to his first-choice team that lost to Newcastle United, apart from Tijjani Reijnders who played in place of Rayan Cherki.

Always interesting to see how even someone at the top of his game, like Pep Guardiola, could lose the plot so badly in the past week.

For what it’s worth, I think Manchester City will win today and then finish top of the Premier League at the end of the season, surpassing Arsenal.

With Pep Guardiola, form is temporary and class is permanent. He’s had a bad week, but he won’t have a bad season.
