Pep Guardiola greets Marc Guehi after his Manchester City debut

Pep Guardiola said he was “very happy” with Marc Guehi after helping Man City beat Wolves on his debut for the club.

The centre-back signed for City this week on a £20million deal from Crystal Palace, becoming the club’s second signing in the January transfer market.

Guehi started the match alongside Abdukodir Khusanov and completed the most passes (95) of any player as the team kept a clean sheet in a 2–0 win at home.

“We won against a team that was unbeaten in the last four or five games, so very pleased,” Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day after the final whistle.

“The captain of Crystal Palace must be something special. I’m really happy for him. He demands so much from ourselves that we have to perform better. Good players adapt quickly and understand the game, that’s why.”

Guehi admitted he is still learning the ropes of City’s playing style, but says it has been an exciting week for him.

“It was okay from my side, I still have a lot to learn to get up to speed. There are a lot of details and positioning and certain things, but it was really exciting.

“There is a good mentality in the group, it is important that the focus is on the next game and making sure we get the win. We need the mentality and intensity within the team and hopefully we can keep that up.”
