STATE COLLEGE PA – The fair horse people of Pennsylvania gathered Saturday evening at the Nittany Lion Inn for the annual Pennsylvania Fair Awards Dinner, held in conjunction with meetings of the U.S. Trotting Association and the Pennsylvania Fair Harness Horsemen’s Association.
The dinner, emceed by USTA District Chairman Sam Beegle, will offer two sets of awards to the top horses at the fairs: Honoring the leading point winners throughout the summer fair season in the eight fair categories, along with the winners of their end-of-season championship events.
Three horses were double winners: first-year trotting filly PA Patricia, second-year trotting filly Milagro and second-year trotting male Lionheart Hanover. Milagro claimed her second championship in a row, while her Tony and Linda Schadel stablemate, Lionheart Hanover, became only the second PA Scholarship horse ever to win the group points title and championship at two and three: the other was the filly Bettor Strait N Up, who also rode for Tony and Linda.
The leading point winners, who received a “made up” blanket in their stable colors, were:

Young James Schadel, who took the place of his parents Tony and Linda while they were on a cruise, did the farmer’s work in collecting all the stable’s profits. He was also a frequent recipient during the door prize awards, making the Fair Dinner Ticket one of the best values for running races, as the average ticket price is exceeded by the average amount of “swag” attendees collect. The formidable Roger Hammer won a jog cart, while the “grand prize” of a sulky went to Abby Martin.
