Pelicans make shocking step by signing former University of North Carolina –

With the NBA for about a month away, teams want to complete their training camp grilles. On September 2, Chris Haynes reported that the pelicans of New Orleans have signed former Garrison Brooks former North Carolina for a deal. I assume that this deal is a training camp, given that no other big news stores have reported this.

Brooks was definitely not someone I thought it would be on the radar of the Pelicans on the way to the training camp, but here we are.

He spent the last two years of his professional career in Lithuania playing Wolves Twinbet Vilnius and Korea play for Wonju Dongbu Promy.

During his time between the two international clubs, he had on average just over 7 points per match in 18.5 minutes per match. At 6’10 “Brooks has never been anyone who has been asked to save the floor because he often operates because he scores the most comfortably from the midrange and in the paint.

At the age of 26, Brooks never reached the NBA, which made the Pelicans decision to sign a head. Even if the deal is strictly a training camp -try -out, it is strange that a team with Playoff -ambitions would give someone who has never reached the NBA and a mediocre overseas is a chance.

Brooks the best days are much further than him

If New Orleans signed the 2020 version of Brooks, I would all be in it. As a junior at the university, he was on average slightly less than 17 points per match, made the All-Accel team and won the most improved player of ACC. But that is a completely different player in a completely different time.

Brooks is far beyond the days of dominating the university ball, and it is difficult for me to think of a reason why the pelicans give him a chance.

Of course, he is a skilled four people who scores efficiently, but his playing style like a 6’10 “Power Forward that the three cannot shoot and is at best defensive, does not work in modern NBA.

Because the Pelicans are only allowed to offer six training camp offers, offering one of these contracts to someone with 0 years of NBA service makes much more main screens. With options on the free agent market such as Delon Wright, Seth Curry, Pat Spencer and Cole Swider who are available, I ask me that the thinking process of Joe Dumars was with this addition.

I have tried to be more positive and trust the process with Dumars’ movements lately, but I can’t wrap my head for this decision. I know that a training camp deal will probably not influence what the Pelicans are doing this season, but because of this kind of signing sessions the rest of the NBA will take you less seriously than they already do.
