Pedro Martinez, Johan Santana Rave about Young Mets -wergers: ‘Future is Bright’

Two of the most important pitching acquisitions in Mets History looked with interest because the next generation of weapons from the team in Flushing has arrived.

Pedro Martinez and Johan Santana were back in Citi Field for Saturday’s Alumni match, and they shared their impressions about the use of the Mets and Dependence on Rookies Nolan McLean, Jonah Tong and Brandon Sproat in their rotation in September.

“I think the Mets look bright for the future,” Martinez said on the field before the festivities. “I hope they will continue to set up well and that they will continue to go internationally and get some guys.

“But I think it is great to see. That will feel great for these children. It is rather than we expected, but it is going to be what Grit is building. The good thing is, if they are now successful if Rookies, by the second year, they feel the feeling that they can be successful at a very young age.

The First-Ballot Hall of Famer, who booked 32 of his 219 victories during the throwing for the 2005-08 Mets, said that the trio of first-year starters reminds him of 2015, when the Mets reached the World Series with young stars Jacob Degrom and Matt Harvey and Rookies Noah SyrderGaratie as a part of their rotation.

Santana, a two-time Cy Young winner who threw the only No-Hitter in Mets History in 2012, agreed.

“I think they have great arms. I think they have a great future,” said Santana. “I think it’s a matter of time for them to mix in and with a few more games, to wet their feet. I think it’s a great talent they are looking at and I’m looking forward to it [watching] It. Because I think the future is rosy. ”

Tong underwent his first rough outing in Friday’s series opener against Degrom and the Rangers, making six runs possible in the first inning.

Sproat was excellent Saturday, making no runs over six innings without walks possible before the bullpen imploded in a 3-2 Mets loss for the Rangers.

McClean is planned to get his next chance on Sunday.

“You have to have a creative vision. The Mets now have a great representation of players from everywhere, and I hope they will continue to do that,” Martinez added. “I hope that they will continue to bring in more talent from home -grown, as they did with Degrom and David Wright and all those guys. I would like to see them do a lot more about it.”
