Two-time Professional Fighters League title challenger Paul Hughes will return to the cage for the first time since his second defeat to Usman Nurmagomedov later this year.
Hughes is one of the biggest names in the PFL today, as the 28-year-old has beaten the likes of AJ McKee, Bruno Miranda and Bobby King during his promotional spell. Despite some fans calling for the extremely talented Hughes to leave the promotion for the UFC, Hughes has remained loyal to the promotion that continues to bring him high-profile fights.
As Hughes looks to get back into the lightweight title mix, he will face another talented newcomer when the PFL returns to Belfast in April.
Paul Hughes vs. Jay Jay Wilson is the headliner for PFL Belfast
As announced by the PFL in a press releaseHughes will face Jay-Jay Wilson (11-2-0) in the PFL Belfast Main Event on April 16. Wilson returns to the cage after a loss to rising contender Archie Colgan in October.
Wilson has recorded victories over the likes of Mads Burnell, Mansour Barnaoui and Pedro Carvalho during his promotional period. A win over Hughes would put Wilson back in the lightweight title discussion.
Hughes will need to put together another impressive winning streak to possibly make a case for a third matchup with Nurmagomedov in the future. Nurmagomedov defeated Alfie Davis via third-round submission earlier this month in his most recent title defense, and is expected to face Colgan for his next fight.
Hughes vs. Wilson promises fireworks in the PFL Belfast main event. The full card for PFL Belfast is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
