Although their dream did not come true, Valentin Vacherot made sure he was the bright spot this season and surprised everyone with a win in Shanghai.
The Monegasque player won the Masters tournament in Shanghai and surprised absolutely everyone by triumphing in this tournament while beating some of the world’s best tennis players.
Patrick Mouratogloua famous coach, speaking on social media, pointed out that Vacherot’s success is one of the biggest surprises in the history of tennis. As the 267th player in the world, he made enormous strides and became one of the biggest sensations of the season.
“From world number 267 to winning a Masters 1000 in Shanghai, and now number 31, this is nothing short of a fairytale,” Mouratoglou wrote on LinkedIn.
“To understand why this ‘miracle’ happened, we have to look beyond the jump in the rankings. Because Valentin didn’t suddenly change his shots. He didn’t reinvent his game. He didn’t wake up with new weapons. He changed the way he approaches matches. And that changes everything.”
The difference between top tennis players and lower ranked tennis players
Mouratoglou also believes that the difference between the Top 100 players and the rest is less physical than mental, including decision-making, stress management and dealing with key moments in matches.
He notes that Vacherot’s confidence was key to his success and transformed his entire game. The coach believes that Valentin’s big advantage is that he plays without pressure, which brings him success.
Vacherot doesn’t think too much about expectations and pressure, and Mouratoglou emphasizes that this is extremely important.
Nevertheless, Patrick emphasizes that with Vacherot’s entry into the Top 20, expectations will be much higher, which represents a huge challenge for the young Monegasque tennis player.
