Patrick Dorgu’s injury could see United change transfer plans – Man United News And Transfer News | The People’s Person

The only thing expected at Manchester United in January was a possible midfield signing.

Former head coach Ruben Amorim had identified that the position was in desperate need of reinforcement, but INEOS opted to focus on attack and reinforcements in the center of the park were kept on the back burner.

Since the top targets are unlikely to jump ship in the middle of the season, the co-owners thought it wise to save up and strike next summer.

However, these plans may need to be recalibrated following Patrick Dorgu’s hamstring injury. The in-form Dane will be out for ten weeks, with United in dire need of cover on the left flank.

Patrick Dorgu’s injury comes at the worst time

Luke Shaw is the only true left-back available to Michael Carrick, with both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui temporary options at best.

Diego Leon is not yet considered ready to make the move, while Tyrell Malacia’s time at Old Trafford is over.

If the England international gets injured, the Red Devils could fall short. Not to mention the former Lecce star’s impact in attack.

According to The Daily Mailthe twenty-time champions of the English league could only enter the market late to find a versatile alternative.

Change in plans

“They need a midfielder and, depending on what further tests reveal this week about Patrick Dorgu’s hamstring damage, another option on the left.

“If we take the left-wing issue for a start, Carrick now only has one orthodox left-back option at his disposal in Luke Shaw, while Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount both have a different profile to Dorgu.

“Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui could play at left-back if something were to happen to Shaw. But Dorgu’s final test results could still lead to a late move to an alternative, with both Diego Leon and Tyrell Malacia not being viable first-team options between now and the final matchday at Brighton.”

No names have been mentioned yet. It will be interesting to see if United can close this gap before the window closes, or if they choose to ignore the obvious discrepancy.

Carrick might not be too happy if INEOS left him shortly before the business end of the campaign.
