In the middle of the Venetian exhibition stands out The genius of l’AquilaA monumental glass sculpture inspired by totemism and cultural creation. Surrounded by colored stones ranked in a circle, the work symbolically evokes rebirth, resilience and collective power, which changes common materials to a visual story that combines spirituality and social consciousness. The image, already presented in 2023 in L’Aquila (and inspired as the artist explained during the press conference by the idea of a “rebirth, where destruction was”), now finds a new life in the Venetian Institute, a training place for the new generations of artists.
The exhibition – which the curator Bernardi presents as a “two -blind gian” – also extends to the parallel to the International sculpture from Banca ifis, in Mestre, where the installation is exhibited Dreams in Giza. Presented for the first time against the background of the Egyptian pyramids, the work consists of metal bars and wooden eggs polychrome, reorganized in a circle to encourage a space of parts and reflection on birth, death and collective identity. Here too, just like in Venice, Tayou’s art takes on the function of including device, able to activate relationships between cultures, individuals and areas.
Tayou, born in Cameroon in 1967, is one of the most radical voices of global art, already “student” of the disappeared critical Chief Personal Misai Who presented him in 1997 at the Johannesbourg Biennale and then in 2002 for Documento. The practice, built on waste and hybrid symbols, requires themes such as post colonialism, migration, pollution and cultural globalization. His sculptures – glass totemic figures and heterogeneous materials – are emblems of the merger between Africa and West, crafts and consumption, tradition and modernity.
Pascale Marthine Tayou in Venice (which will be open to the public until 9 June 2025) It does not just want to be an exhibition, but strives to imagine itself as a real “educational device”, an invitation for intergenerational and intercultural dialogue. An initiative that finds convergence Under the broader dedication of the Genesis for Art Association as a tool for social consciousness and the defense of human rights (We remember that we have known the artworks of the collection of the Moratti Association In Brescia On the occasion of the beautiful exhibition “Until we are free “ wanted by Stefano Karadjov all Santa Giulia Museum that opened in November 2023 ) and the interest that is explained by chair The Banca Efest Ernesto Furtsenberg Fassio For the use of contemporary art as an instrument of distribution and Cultural Education “Pop”, designed to expand in the future with new phases and collaborations and with projects that will also be focused on the boundaries of the bank of the bank in Mestre and look at the establishment of synergies with other important national institutions. Especially the Great Brera led by Angelo Crespi and the National Gallery of Modern Art van Rome with which important intentions have already been announced.
On the other hand, a large and branches canvas of collaborations have been appearing on the scene of the Bel Paese for a while, while other important banking and financial institutions that have dominated the national scene for years seem less interested when the proscenium of the soft power. The important ground floor of guests who attended this inauguration of Tayou is testified. In addition to the Cameroonian artist “accompanied” to the Venetian appointment by his gallery owners of San Giminano and Havana (The excellent and globalistic Galleria Continua – of which we also point to the beautiful documentary “The Skill to Dream”, produced by Sky Arte and Tiwi who tells his story and who received the “Best Documentary” Award on the 2024 edition of the Art Film Fest held in the National Gallery Art in Rome – Reditor – Reditor) Other important personalities appeared, starting with Letizia Moratti and Ernesto Furstenberg, but also the governor of the Veneto region (Today comes out and would be the next candidate for mayor of Venice for the Note of the CDX – Editor)) Luca Zaia – accompanied by the president of Marsilio Arte Luca de Michelis – and in the inevitable role of “special correspondent of the mayor less interested in the art of the history of Venice”, the nice and always sympathetic Venetian lawyer Giorgia PEA. And finally, the architect and director of the Gnam van Rome, who with a sufficiently not too flashy suit, is discreet President Furstenberg accompanied by the presentation at the Academy of Fine Arts Venetian art.
