The Palestinian delegation has secured the right to fly their flag at the World Health Organization (WHO), after a vote on Monday.
The symbolic decision, of which the Palestinian envoy hopes will lead to wider recognition within the United Nations, was adopted during the Who’s Annual Assembly in Geneva.
The proposal, proposed by China, Pakistan, Saudi Aarabia and others, saw 95 voices in favor, with Israel, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Germany. Twenty -seven delegations have abstained.
It follows a successful Palestinian bid for membership of the UN general meeting last year and comes in the midst of signs that France could recognize a Palestinian state.
In clear reference to the devastating Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, Lebanon’s representative Rana El Khoury said that the outcome of the mood “was a small spark of hope for the brave Palestinian people whose suffering has reached unbearable levels”.

The Israeli ambassador Daniel Meron argued against the WHO resolution of which he said he had eroded the principles of the UN and the rules-based order and called for a mood.
“It sends a dangerous message that political symbolism can overwrite the legal standards, that emotion can replace the process and that part -time interests can bend the rules of international legitimacy,” he said. The most important ally, the United States, who intends to leave the WHO, has not participated.
Although nearly 150 countries have recognized a Palestinian state, most large Western and other powers do not have, including the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany and Japan.
France and Japan voted for the proposal, while Great -Britain abstains.
“It is symbolic and one action, but a sign that we are part of an international community to help with the health needs,” told the Palestinian ambassador in the United Nations in Geneva, Ibrahim Khraishi, to Reuters. “I hope that we will soon have a full membership of the WHO and all UN forums.”
Palestinians are looking for Israel trapped in the war in the Middle East of 1967 in areas.
They have the official state status of the state on the WHO, which is currently undergoing a transformation because it looks ahead to life without its greatest donor the United States.
Last week the Palestinians won the right to receive reports among the WHOs International Health Regulations – A series of global rules for monitoring outbreaks
