The Pakistan Cricket Board has threatened their Asia Cup 2025 against the VAE. The PCB wants the ICC to remove the referee Andy Pycroft after the controversy in India-Pakistan. If this is not the case, they claim that they will not assume the field.
The drama started after India Pakistan had defeated seven wickets. Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates refused the usual handshake and immediately walked to the dressing room.
Pakistani captain Salman Agha and coach Mike Hesson were furious. Agha even broke the presentation after the game where Sanjay Manjrekar waited to interview him.
Suryakumar later devoted the victory to the Indian forces. He explained that skipping the handshake was deliberately and said, “Some things are beyond Sportsman Spirit.”
What happens when Pakistan Boycot?
If Pakistan refuses to play against the VAE, the game is treated like a walkover. This means that the VAE automatically gets two points. Pakistan, stuck on two points of their only victory against Oman, will be eliminated from the tournament.
The VAE already have two points after the Oman’s beating. With a walkover against Pakistan they will go to four points and qualify for the Super 4S together with India.
India has already secured their place with victories against both Pakistan and the VAE. On the other hand, when Pakistan De Vae plays, the game becomes a virtual knockout. The winner goes to the Super 4S.
At the moment all eyes are aimed at Mohsin Naqvi and the PCB to see if they actually continue their boycott threat. The decision can save their campaign or end abruptly.
