Berkshire, England-Padraig Harrington Birdied The last hole on Saturday for another 5-under 65 for a two-shot lead on Justin Leonard who will open the last round of the Senior while the Irishman goes for his second senior major of the year.
Harrington was one of the four players who at a certain moment during the round on the Oude Koers in Sunningdale had part of the management at a certain moment. He took the lead with Birdies on the 13th and 14th hole, and a closing Birdie contributed to his slight lead.
Harrington was 13-under 197. He has been in the United Kingdom for the last three weeks for the left golf, starting with the Scottish Open. He won the US Senior Open in Colorado a month ago.
Leonard, the only PGA Tour Champions player who was cut in the open week at Royal Portush, also had a second consecutive 65.
Thomas Bjorn had a 67 and stood behind three shots.
Harrington and Leonard are past Open Champions – Leonard in Royal Throne in 1997, Harrington won the first of two Claretjugs in Carnoustie (2007) and Royal Birkdale (2008) a decade later. Both can become the fifth player who wins the open and senior open, a performance that is last achieved by Darren Clarke in 2022.
Steven Alker, a double Charles Schwab Cup winner who opened with a 73, tried to return to the game. He shot 66 and was one of the four players at 8-under 202, five shots behind.
The winner is exempt for the 154th open next year in Royal Birkdale.
