Oxford United are pursuing a deal for Millwall striker Aidomo Emakhu, according to reporter Dan Marsh.
Oxford United have been incredibly active in the transfer window as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship. Matt Bloomfield has recently been appointed as the new head coach and has a tough task to keep his side in the division.
The U’s have made six new signings over the course of January so far. OUFC welcomed Yunus Konak, Jamie Donley and Christ Makosso on loan until the end of the season. They came in too Jamie McDonnellJin-woo Jeon and Myles Peart-Harris on permanent deals.
However, Bloomfield’s team isn’t done there yet, with only a few hours left until the deadline. According to reporter Dan MarshOxford United are working on a deal to sign Millwall winger Aidomo Emakhu.
The 22-year-old is available to leave The Den before the window closes. Emakhu has made 27 league appearances for the Lions this season, scoring twice and would add more firepower to OUFC’s attack.
Oxford United need proven Championship quality
Championship news
Oxford United have a big task to stay in the division. Only five points separate the U’s from safety, but they need to collect as many points as possible in the final third of the campaign.
Bloomfield will want players he can immediately trust to help the club out of the bottom three. Signing younger players who already have a good number of games under their belt is likely the model OUFC will focus on if they want to bring in another player or two this window.
Emakhu fits into that category, and a move to another club could really see the youngster flourish. He has played 74 Championship games with Millwall and has not played his best in the second tier. However, the 22-year-old could improve his performances.
Aidomo Emakhu could be a solid signing for Oxford United
Emakhu would be another solid signing if they seal a move for the Irishman. His goal contributions don’t flatter the winger, but his overall gameplay makes him an attractive option to have on the wing. He could be a game changer late in the season.
Aidomo Emakhu’s stats for Millwall
Millwall signed Tommy Watson for the remainder of the campaign, which obviously frees up space for the 22-year-old to leave. The Lions initially signed Emakhu in 2022 when he was just 19.
Wycombe Wanderers saw two bids rejected for the Irishman this summer, but Oxford United should have a better chance of securing a deal for him. Even if OUFC fails to stay afloat, Emakhu is a player who would thrive even more in a lower division.
