Writer: Helena Bergström
Another year of traveling is almost over. In 2025 we have made a long series of exciting trips, both with and without a camper, both in Europe and in more exotic parts of the world. There were 12 countries in total, one of which was a new country…!
Our trips and camper trips in 2025 – in short
If we summarize the travel year 2025 for us, Peter and Helena from FREEDOMtravel, we have traveled a lot:
- Number of continents: 3 (Europe, Africa, Asia)
- Number of countries: 12 (Finland, Egypt, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Slovakia)
- Number of new countries: 1 (Slovakia)
- Number of Swedish landscapes: 5 (Upland, Dalarna, Ångermanland, Småland, Skåne)
- Time spent traveling: 7 months
- Ways to travel: Camper (5.5 months), plane trip (1 month) and car or train trip (2 weeks)
How can we travel so much? Yeah, so we work while we travel. We usually travel with our own mobile home and then we try to keep a tight budget (lots of free camping and cooking in the mobile home) and otherwise we go on some press trips or trips where we combine private trips with various collaborations.
The background is that we have combined our strong love for travel with work – a lifestyle that hardly makes us financially rich, but fills our days with adventures and experiences.
January: At home in Stockholm
We started this year at home on our houseboat in Stockholm. One of the things we talked about was: what is it like to live on a houseboat?

February: Åland and Dalarna
We were also at home in Stockholm for most of February, but had time for a few adventures: a beautiful day cruise to Åland and an overnight stay in the cozy “Oddis Öga” near Näsets Marcusgård in Dalarna.

Mars: Egypt
The month of March started with camper fairs: both Tumbomässan and Stockholm Husvagn Husbil. Peter also took me on a surprise trip to Malmö! The big trip of the month went to Cairo in Egypt, where we visited the pyramids in Giza. Fascinating!

April: High coast and Central Europe
April was an incredibly travel-intensive month for us. We started with a mobile home adventure north, including Glamping Högakusten and Äventyrsgruvan in Tuna Hästberg.
Then we packed the camper again and drove south: towards the big camper trip of the year. We started packrafting in Småland before taking the ferry to Poland. The program now included a visit to the Czech nature reserve Hrubá Skála and overnight stays in two wonderful spa hotels in Poland.

Maj: Croatia and France
At the beginning of May we parked the camper at Munich airport and flew to Split for a fantastic cruise in the Croatian archipelago. We then flew back to Munich and drove to France, where we started in cozy Colmar.
After this it was time for another cruise: an exclusive river cruise in Burgundy – a unique experience indeed! After the cruise we continued in France with our camper, visiting highlights such as the Gouffre de Padirac cave and the historic pilgrimage site of Rocamadour.

June: France
We spent the entire month of June in France in our camper. We hung out in the fantastic Gorges du Tarn gorge, where we were visited by our friends Lennart and Beata. A little later we were visited by Peter’s son Robin and his wife Alexandra. Together with them we went back to Burgundy, where we visited the beautiful cities of Dijon and Beaune.
When we were alone again, we went to another fantasy gorge, Ardeche, where we enjoyed the nature and canoeing.

July: Corsica
At the beginning of July we took the ferry from the French mainland to beautiful Corsica. Here we visited charming towns such as Saint-Florent and drove on dramatic roads such as the Calanche di Piana. Ten years ago we visited Corsica for the first time and it was great to come back!

August: Sardinia and southern Italy
From Corsica we took the ferry to Sardinia. We traveled around with the camper and visited the beautiful bay of Cala Gonone and the capital Cagliari.
Then we went to Naples on the Italian mainland. Here we visited Pompeii, which had been on our wish list for a long time, and was just as fascinating as we suspected.

September: Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Greece
In September we started traveling north through Italy and spent a lot of time on beautiful Lake Garda, visiting places like Sirmione and Riva del Garda. We continued through Switzerland and Germany, where we spied the water spectacle in the Kassel Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe.
When we entered Sweden, we drove straight to the Elmia Husvagn Husbil trade fair, where we presented the Destination of the Year 2025 award. In the same month we managed to travel to the Greek island of Andros where we were able to experience the beautiful beaches and nice restaurants of Andros on Andros.

October: Uzbekistan and Tunisia
October was an exotic month for us, because we visited both Central Asia and North Africa. We once again took a group of writers on a press trip to Uzbekistan, which included taking the train to Zomin National Park and the train to Samarkand.
Then we could only be home for a few days before it was time for another press trip, this time to Tunisia. During this trip we visited the blue-white city of Sidi Bou Said before descending to the more exotic Douz in the south of the country.

November: Slovakia
The month of November offered the first “new” country of the year: Slovakia. We went on a press trip to Bratislava, where we went on an excursion with a wine safari in Slovakia. Slovakia was a nice introduction!

December: Germany
The last trip of the year was to the island of Usedom on the Baltic coast in Germany. Here we experienced a truly beautiful holiday paradise, which is surprisingly unknown among Swedes, including a spa in Heringsdorf.

A few quiet weeks at home
Now we are planning a few quiet weeks at home… Next year there will be new adventures, but first we will focus on the TV couch, cooking, cleaning, working on the computers at home, family, Christmas celebrations and things like that.
