A prisoner who escaped from New Orleans City prison in May and had been fleeing for more than a month, was captured, the authorities said on Friday.
Antoine Massey was taken into custody in a house in New Orleans, the State Police of Louisiana said in a statement.
At the time of his escape, Massey, 33, was locked up on the accusation of domestic violence with strangulation, theft of motor vehicles and a conditional violation, the agency said, adding that there can be extra costs.
Massey will be brought to a secure state correction facility outside the area, the State Police said in a press release.
A prisoner, Derrick Groves, remains in general. Legal enforcement staff from local, national and federal agencies will continue to look for him, the agency said.
Groves was convicted of second -degree murder and attempted second -degree murder in October.
They were among 10 people accused of removing a toilet from a cell wall and fled on 16 May through a hole in Orleans Parish Justice Center.
A message – “to easy lol” – was seen on the wall in photos released by the authorities.
More than a dozen people have been arrested and accused of helping their escape, including a prison maintenance employee who accused authorities of cutting the water in the cell so that the prisoners could remove the toilet.
A lawyer for the maintenance employee, Sterling Williams, has denied that he played a role in their escape. He said his client he turned off the water because the toilet was hidden in an unused disability cell.
